School Information

Before the pictures shown on this page there were 4 different schools located in 4 different homes.
One was located at the site of the Bank, one was on the site of Monk's Garage, one on Franklin Street and one was in Bidinger's house on Center Steeet.
One of the first schools in Lyons Falls was located on Goram Street. It was a one room school house until 1893 when the building (at right) was built. This school was used until 1903. A prominent teacher there was Maurice Walsh. Water was obtained from a spring across the road and it was considered an honor to be chosen to bring fetch the water.
Land was purchased in 1900 and the school (pictured left) was built by 1901. In 1903 the first class graduated. The class consisted of 4 students. The first faculty were Anna Volovic, Samuel Neff, Lillian Burnham and Mary Cox.
The new school was built in 1927. It was used as the Elementary School and High School until 1963 when the South Lewis High School was built in Turin, NY. It remained the town's Elementary school until in closed in 1983.
