Negotiating research - some additional thoughts from others
As an extension of the previous entry ...
After discussions with colleagues and
with researchers some additional thoughts on negotiating an inquiry focus ...
some authentic voices from the process ...
* Synchronous may support the process
to prevent it from been drawn out. A synchronous has a place to in allowing
thoughtful revision and discussion, but practical needs and pace dictate that
synchronous may be valuable. The exact mix of these two may vary from learner to
learner.
* Though hearing many voices
(community approach) to negotiation can be useful - this can also be confusing.
* Failure to resolve definition
issues can be demoralising and lead to feeling of inadequacy. This adds to the
need for sensitivity, a range of methods available to support learners and a
scaffolded approach to guide the decision making process.
* Deadlines for negotiation may be
intimidating - and cause a sense of panic which overrides the creativity
necessary to finish. Perhaps a softer approach to deadlining may be possible,
for example by giving a first draft date and then a lag and then a date for
finalisation. This would erase the idea that first draft is complete final and
non-negotiable.
