Chenrezi - Bodhisattva Of Compassion | |||||||||||||||
"The mantra OM MANI PEME HUNG is invested by the grace and power of the mind of Chenrezi, who himself gathers the grace and compassion of all the Buddhas and bodhisattvas. In this view, the mantra is endowed with the capacity to purify our mind from the veils that obscure it. The mantra opens the mind to love and compassion and leads it toward awakening. The deity and the mantra being one in essence means that one may recite the mantra without necessarily doing the visualization. The recitation still retains its effectiveness." --Bokar Rinpoche, Chenrezi, Lord of Love "Let us trust the mantra, let us allow the body to attend to its work and the mind to its reflections leading to result, but at the same time let us recite the mantra om mani peme hung, without even being attentive. We will purify many karmic veils and finally attain awakening." --Kalu Rinpoche, Samye Ling, Scotland, 1983 Click on the links below for more info about Chenrezi... In his great compassion the Buddha also emanated as Chenrezi, a form of the bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara. Practices such as the Chenrezi sadhana can be approached by someone leading an ordinary life, and the Chenrezi meditation is uncommon both in the ease of its performance and the blessing that it bestows. Since the practice of Chenrezi is so easy, it is regularly done at Kagyu Thubten Choling and at all of KTC's affiliated centers. There is great blessing in many people chanting together. But it can be done on one's own as well, and one can recite the mantra OM MANI PEME HUNG at any time one wishes-while walking around, while eating, while working, any time at all. Anyone can learn about the mantra and the Chenrezi meditation by requesting lamas such as Ven. Lama Norlha Rinpoche to explain it. The development and fulfillment stage practices of Chenrezig are easy to do, easy to understand, and easily explained, and no matter how long one practices it, its benefit will continue to grow. If in the future one should do a three-year retreat, then meditation upon other yidams will be all the easier because of one's experience with the methods and visualizations of Chenrezig. In America we make a great deal out of highways, and we depend on them to get where we are going. We need to understand, therefore, that the development and fulfillment stages of tantric practice are the highway that all the siddhas of the precious Kagyu have traveled to reach enlightenment and full Buddhahood, with incalculable benefits for sentient beings. It is only fitting that we travel the same highway. --The Very Ven. Kalu Rinpoche, from: "Following in the Footsteps of the Great Kagyu Forefathers" |
