The following list is as many of the most commonly used words and their synonyms or abbreviations we can think of. There will of course be exceptions, and more unusual examples to be found from time to time, but this should serve as a reasonable starting point. It is only a template though Ð you will find yourself constantly surprised, amused and disappointed by the compilers in their choices.

Most important to remember is that some compilers, even at the same publisher/newspaper, have different ways of working, thinking, and writing. Thus, whilst you may get used to managing a certain crossword, with good and bad days, things do change.
