Something about Mandy...

Mandy is a very special girl. All rescues are special, but there is something about Mandy.

Her story began long ago as she is at least 10 years old. We will never know what kind of life she lived, but I can tell you about her new life with me. I am a volunteer with IMPS and word came in of two minpins in the Orange County Shelter. One had a bad case of mange but was young and the other was much older with skin problems as well. It was decided to save the young one and see if we could also save the older one. It was late in the afternoon and she was scheduled for euthanasia at 5pm. You have to keep in mind that rescue groups can only survive by donations. One of the saddest aspects of rescue is that you can not save everyone. If you try, you will jeopardize the organization, and it will eventually go under. Tough love has to come into play when you have dogs that have too much going on medically and especially if they are old. Mandy fit this sad senerio. The volunteer went to the shelter and took a look at the old gal. When she opened the cage this little dog jumped into her purse and began licking her furiously as if to say "I have been waiting for you, I am so glad you are here". After all she must have been through she was so loving, so full of life, and wasn't about to be left behind. She took a chance and rescued them both.

Mandy was taken to the vet and found to have a host of problems, much more than rescue could handle. Once again tough love came in and it was decided she would need to be put down. But there is something about Mandy that came through with the veterinarian as well. He could not put her to sleep and gave rescue a deal that would save her life. If it wasn't for our volunteer taking a chance and also donating money to this little dog and the veterinarian donating his skills she would not be here today. Everyone that meets her falls in love. She is quite possibly the sweetest dog that has ever lived. I can't understand how she ended up in a shelter. I wish I could turn back the hands of time and be the one who picked her up as a young puppy and given her the life she so deserves. I was lucky enough to be the one that got to foster her. She is no longer my foster, but a much loved member of my family.

Please... donate to rescue and more dogs like this can be saved.
