Salt Creek State Park - Tongue Point

Description

This is your classic Straight of Juan De Fuca shore dive. The bottom terrain is very rocky, with many large cervices caused by years of erosion. There usually is a lot of wave action going on at the entry sites of the Park, so be sure to time your entry and exit. The park itself is friendly, and does accommodate overnight campers. Bring some tanks and stay for the weekend. Diving facilities are located only a few miles away.

Comments

This is a definite "must do" dive for the Puget Sound. If the weather is not too bad and the waves are minimal, time your entry, jump in the water, submerge, and start having fun! Expect to see more life that you can possibly imagine. It is true when people say that you can't but help to step on life when walking amongst the rocks! On the edge of this underwater bluff lies an enormous kelp forest. I've seen whales right outside the edge of this forest, as well as sealions. I strongly recommend you look at the reference in the Northwest Shore Dives Book. Expect to find the usual barrage of critters, such as lingcod, greenlings, urchins, abalone, and a bazillion different types of invertebrates. I give this site one Thumb Up on the Parker Scale!
