Observatory Point

Description

Obseratory Point is that stretch of exposed waterfront from Bachelor Rock extending West. From a boat, drop in the water at approx the 50' depth range and descend to the bottom. Explore the endless boulder piles and rock formations that make up this dive site. If the currents are heading towards the East, you can drift over to Bachelor Rock and take a look at what it has to offer. Expect to find such critters as the Puget Souned King Crab, wolf eels, abalone, hooded crabs, and the usual assortement of typical fishes and invertebrates.

Location

Drive to Port Angeles. Once there, follow the road signs to Highway 101 West. In approx 5 miles, turn right on to Highway 112 West to Sekiu/Neah Bay. In approx 7 miles, turn right on to Freshwater Bay road. Follow this road down to the Freshwater Bay Boat Launch. You'll need a boat.

Comments

Observatory Point makes for a great second or third dive of the day. Or, in my case, if you get blown off of the Knot, you can always motor East and dive this site. This is a fine dive site and offers a plethora of fun critters to look for. Parker gives this site One Thumb Up on the Parker Scale.
