Charles Island, Sechelt Peninsula

Description

This was the first dive of my 4-day Thanksgiving weekend Sunshine Coast dive trip. It was at night, aboard The Sunshine Coast Tours boat. Above water, I can't really tell you much: Charles Island is a small island just a few minutes from Pender Harbour. Underwater, we were dropped on a nice vertical wall, that extended down to around 90 fsw. Beyond that, there was a slope that gently went down and down. Not much to see here. Saw a tiger rockfish for the first time, but that was about it. It was an OK dive, considering I'd been in a car all day.

Nice sunrise, huh?

GPS Coordinates:

From Seattle, take I-5 North. Cross the US/Canada border and get onto Highway 15 North. In approx 53 kilometers, take Route 1 East, to Horseshoe Bay. At Horseshoe Bay, take the Langdale/Sunshine Coast Ferry. Follow the signs to Sechelt, or wherever you are staying in this area.

Comments

This dive site reminded me of Hood Canal. Some silt, cold water, good vizibility, but not a lot of micro or macro life. A few fishies here and there, but rather unimpressive. As far as I know, this site is only accessible by boat. Contact The Sunshine Coast Tours, and ask for Bryce. He'll take you to this spot, or wherever you'd like to go. I give this site one Thumb Up on the Parker Scale, 'cuz it was in Canada, and I was in a good mood when I dove it.
