Brian teaches undergraduate classes in the Physics Department, where he applies the lessons of 15 years of work with the Little Shop of Physics to make his instruction more engaging and effective. Brian is widely regarded as an excellent teacher, and has won many College and University teaching awards, including a Best Teacher award from the Colorado State University Alumni Association, a Faculty Undergraduate Teaching Award from the College of Natural Sciences, and a Instructional Innovation Award from the Office of Instructional Services.

In addition to teaching "standard" physics classes, Brian also instructs future science teachers in techniques of science instruction. The Physics Teaching Experience class is taught cooperatively with a teacher from the local Poudre School District, who offers valuable insights and a real-world perspective.

Brian is the coauthor of a textbook for the introductory physics course, College Physics: A Strategic Approach, by Randall D. Knight, Brian Jones, and Stuart Field.
