nyj61: notes from the sick room

Sorry it's been so long since a real entry on this site. About a week and a half ago I got a fever and whatever my body was trying to fend off then has clearly prevailed. One friend blames malnutrition. All I know is ... this is possibly the worst, most miserable head cold I've ever had. :( And though it makes things dicey for the bank account, I sure am glad I haven't had temp work since Monday. I'd be a terrible worker at this point.

And really, to take it week by week as far as finances, bills and groceries go is pretty much par for the course right now. God has certainly been faithful to provide — and obviously knows I'm sick! — so I'm not too worried about it.

Tomorrow's adventure: trying to beat this cold with kiddie meds. More on that later if I'm feeling up to writing.

Meanwhile, all the unemployment loot I was owed has been paid out, so life is quite the adventure these days. So far I've gotten by on a combination of temp work, freelancing, and gifts from friends or relatives moved to help me pay my rent. To keep costs low, I continue baking my own bread and (mostly) making my own lattes. Although in this condition, neither milk nor dehydration makes much sense.

I still don't know where I'll wind up in the long-term, but I'd like to leave New York sometime in the summer, if that works out. I've applied for a teaching job in a California community college, and will probably apply for a similar position at another district. Neither of those schools will probably let me know for a while though. In the mid-term, I also applied for a long-term contract position with a San Fran-based company I previously applied to. The job is billed as telecommuting possible, so I'm hoping they won't just brush my application aside. The HR woman was encouraging enough ... so we'll see. At this point some mid-term consistency/stability would be really nice. But until that happens, I guess I just keep learning to live in limbo. Though hopefully not in stuffed-head limbo much longer.
