nyj3: finally, some work!

the job sitch
The unemployment saga has finally ended, at least through this week. Tuesday I registered with another temp agency, and this one seems to be a good choice. Had an interview (through them) Wednesday morning for an exec. asst. position that didn’t work out, but by 10 a.m. I was already on the job at a 3-day assignment that could carry over to the first part of next week. I’m assigned at this huge ad agency that has big clients like Pepsi (in fact, you can’t even have Coke in the building!). The work is not too glamorous, but I think the salary should cover my next rent payment.

We’ll see where things go from here, but my computer-program tests came back really well, and apparently I’m a pretty fast typist as well. Add that to the fact this temp agency has some pretty large clients, and I’m starting to feel better about the employment situation. Still no hope of getting a bed anytime soon, but people keep telling me the floor is supposedly good for one’s spine. ;)

social stuff
In other news, I’ve gotten involved with a really good church here, Redeemer Presbyterian. Although the attendance is huge, I’ve already made several friends and some good contacts for eventually getting into publishing or at least a permanent job. So it feels like I’m slowly starting to settle in.

Haven’t done much writing, but I do have a poem appearing this month in the online journal City Writers Review. Check it out through the end of this month.
