Face to Face, Solo Exhibition, Haley Farm Art Gallery, Kittery, ME

This is the painting I did at the open studio at Haley Farm Gallery. It is a portrait of Eugene, a visitor from Singapore, who came to Tea Time Art. Jackie (the gallery owner) and Rex (my husband) corralled him into volunteering to be the subject of the studio painting. Thank you, Eugene, for agreeing because I really enjoyed doing this painting. I called this painting "Fresh Eyes." Eugene is here on a work program to learn and share with a set of fresh eyes. He is also opening our eyes as we learn more about Singapore and its way of life.

The official open studio was only two hours long, and had a large turnout. I only barely got the bones of the painting completed because I had such an active dialogue with the audience. Two of my students from this summer's Children's Art Express attended. Anais photographed the event and Artin sketched faces. Other attendees had lots of questions about how I decide what to paint. This conversation turned into an even longer conversation on Monday, about art in general.
