Pelusium

These are the ruins of the ancient Roman city of Pelusium. This site is not listed in the tour guides, but I was able to tag along on my roommate's class trip. We were joined by armed guards.

This is believed to be part of the ancient irrigation system
Pottery littered the ground
At times it was impossible not to step on it
This opening leads into an area that was used to store water
Part of the city's walls

My roommate,Sharon, standing on top of an ancient wall gazing into the past
This might have been part of the city's gate
I don't know what this was

Capitals of different styles were scattered around the site

Ruins of a Byzantine church
A modern city can be seen in the background
Tomb where a Saint's body was discovered
Baptisim font
The church sanctury-this area has been rebuilt
The gray disk was probably a mill stone
