The final send-off. Tide tables are taped to trail maps and each hiker is given an Overnight Use Permit (required for ferry crossings at Nitinat Narrows and Gordon River) and a West Coast Trail Safety Information Sheet that describes evacuation procedures.
An excellent piece of news is that low tides will fall during daylight hours, which means that we can take frequent advantage of the easier and more scenic beach trail instead of the tougher forest trail.
