The mandatory orientation is intended to make hikers feel comfortable and confident. That's why the talk focuses on bears, cougars, impassable headlands, and the dangers of being trapped on the beach during a rising tide, not to mention the 85-105 people evacuated each season due to injury and hypothermia. |
