Yeah, I know. I'm crossing the streams. But
it's been one of those kinds of days (with a shipmate shindig in just a few that
might run long), so you're getting the combo platter. Plus, I had a request for fire from some fellas in the 5th Civil Affairs
Group . Marines camped out in a rough neighborhood, and doing the
lord's work.
There's no way a strike fighter pilot can say no to a request like that. So: (Previously) (Part I begins here ) Pre-contact," the XO calls when he's aligned behind the basket. "Cleared to engage." The XO bumps the throttles up, cautiously - the key is to keep flying formation on the big jet, while steering the probe right into the center of the basket. The key is to have confidence, to know that you can do this, that it can be done. The key is not to be afraid...

You were aware, perhaps, that the Yellow Fever
vaccine contained an actual live virus?
Fri - August 5, 2005
I want another 30 days...
Sat
- July 30, 2005
Yes, yes - I know it's Saturday. But there is a
precedent
for such things...
Fri - July 22, 2005
Did I mention that it's hot, in San
Diego?
Fri - July 15, 2005
Let's ease it back a notch, shall
we?
Oh, yes: The Cap'n and a diet coke. We're re-exploring our proletarian roots.
Fri - July 8, 2005
Not really sure that this is going to be worth
your time, this week. Consider yourself forewarned.
Fri - July 1, 2005
And 30 days of leave,
daddy-o.
Boo-yah. Oh: A California Chardonnay. Fetzer, actually. Sweet bodied, with brash overtones and hints of bark and cinnamon. A tempestuous finish, though - almost pert. You could just spank it, right there on the bottom. And yes, I'm making all of that up. Except the wine part. It's still early here, and well: We wouldn't want it thought we had a problem...

Something a little different this week: A
tumbler of Woodford Reserve , based upon the kind
recommendation of Bryan, who drops in from time to time while trying to stay
awake while being up half the night on call. Even more generous than his
recommendation (and I am exceptionally pleased with the thing itself) was the
fact that he made quite a generous donation to more than pay for
it.
For which I thank him kindly. (And the honor is mine, sir.)

This where all the other stuff goes. Things that
didn't fit anywhere else.
Ketel1, by the by. Two olives, as is his custom. Yabba-dabba-do!

It's probably a mistake to wax nostalgic about
the Cold War...
Fri - April 29, 2005
You like that, the Roman numeral thing? I was
thinking that maybe someday (not today, but, you know...) I'd write a really
good Friday Musings and you'd want to tell all your friends but you wouldn't
know which one, and it would get complicated. So I'd put a Roman numeral by the
title, and that would clear everything up.
Or is that just pretentious? Oh, Vodka Martini, up and dry, by the way. I just might have a second. It's been that kind of day. And after all, it is Friday.
Fri - April 15, 2005
Well.
Here we are again. (But it's Saturday!) Feh - he has a social life, you know. Sometimes.

Fri - April 1, 2005
Short?
Certainly.
Sweet? Well, now. That's your call, isn't it?
Sat
- March 26, 2005
(But this is
Saturday!)
Shuddup. Dinni tell you there were going to be some changes around here? By the way, thanks to Greyhawk for the traffic spike - practically everything is under the "read more" link, just in case that wasn't sand-poundingly obvious.

Back.
Herewith, a Musing cast as a travelogue: |

"Sign on, young man, and sail with me. The stature of our homeland is no more than the measure of ourselves. Our job is to keep her free. Our will is to keep the torch of freedom burning for all. To this solemn purpose we call on the young, the brave, the strong, and the free. Heed my call, Come to the sea. Come Sail with me." - John Paul Jones "Pardon him, Theodotus; he is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature" --George Bernard Shaw, "Ceasar and Cleopatra" "And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music."--Friederich Nietzsche "Blogito Ergo Sum" - Neptunus Lex About Me Email me: Solidarity
