The Airline Industry is bouncing back finally - more people will fly...Following the extreme downturn in
airline travel following September 11 and the SARS outbreak in Asia, it looks
like global passenger travel is on the increase finally.
With Airbus and Boeing investing heavily in
ever-more fuel efficient plane designs, it would be a pity of acts of terrorism
and natural disasters preventing people from taking advantage of cheaper travel.
Despite soaring fuel prices, the International Civil Aviation Organisation
(ICAO) is predicting
"world airline passenger traffic ... to expand by 7.6 percent, 6.5 percent and 6.2 percent in 2005, 2006 and 2007, respectively", according to a report by CNN, dated July 29, 2005, and available here. The report goes on to say that, ironically, the biggest growth is expected for travel within the Middle-East and Asia, while the Americas will experience less than the average growth, but will still expand. All in all, good news for the travelling public, and the airlines of the world, and indeed good news for those treating fearful flyers since more people will likely desire to travel by air, yet there will likely be a growing pool of people who present with fear of flying: the cheaper it becomes to travel, and the more their friends and family wish to fly, the greater the incentive for fearful flyers to once and for all do something about their life-limiting fears.
