Boeing's 7E7 Dreamliner - Long flights ahead!

Have a listen to the Australian ABC Radio program recorded at the Boeing factory in Seattle, where the new "Dreamliner" long distance aircraft is moving through its design stages.

The ABC Science Program is a serious science current affairs program broadcast on Saturdays with a repeat on Monday. It has broken several very important stories over the years, and is a "must listen" program.

On Saturday, May 15, part of the program came from Being in Seattle, where Bill Hammack "gives his commentary on Boeing's new Dreamliner and the rivalry between Boeing
and Airbus to produce a fuel efficient jet that would lower operating costs."

The recorded broadcast also looks at how flying will change in the near future. You will need RealPlayer software to listen to the program (look carefully on Real's site for the free player) and the actual program content begins at time 8mins 19 secs here.

For a fascinating "look see" into the design of the Dreamliner, one which is highly interactive, visit a special Boeing site here. (You will need Flash 6)

And here are some shots of what its interiors may look like - special effort is being made to make interiors inviting including auto-tinting of very large passenger windows. This is so the plane can control its internal ambient lighting to better help passengers avoid jet lag.

If you've come to this entry looking for Dreamliner images, Boeing has made available Mac and PC compatible "wallpaper" to use as desktop backgrounds.
You can download them here.
