Wed - June 16, 2004Live Internet Concert Broadcast from Israel this FridayFrom the Israel hour discussion
list...
This coming Friday, June 18th, 2:00pm Israel
time, the Israel Broadcasting Authority's Reshet Bet radio station will be
presenting a live special broadcast of their weekly "Gaon BaRadio" show
- Yehoram Gaon on the radio.
It's a tribute to the Israeli poet and lyricist Natan Yonatan Z"L, who passed away recently. The show is beautifully titled "Lich'yot B'toch Hashir" (To Live Inside the Song), and will be broadcast live from Tel Aviv's Heychal Hatarbut - the famous Mann Auditorium.
Singers scheduled to perform include Shlomo Artzi, Dorit Reuveni, Ha'achim
v'Ha'achayot, Orna and Moshe Datz, and of course, Yehoram Gaon himself. News
also that Achinoam Nini and Tzvika Pik are also slated to
appear.Yonatan's list of poems includes such works as "Shir Eretz", "Shuv Natchil Mechadash", "Ne'esaf Tishrei (Met Av Umet Elul)", "Yesh Prachim", "Kmo Balada" and "Al Anfay Hashita". His most well-known poem outside of Israel is his famous "Chofim", which has become a standard at memorial services. "Chofim" was written by Natan Yonatan after he lost his son Lior in the Yom Kippur War: Chofim hem lifamim ga'aguim l'nachal, Ra'iti pa'am chof shenachal azavo Im lev shavur shel chol va'even, V'ha'adam - V'ha'adam hu lifamim gam ken Yachol l'hisha'er natush u'vli kochot Mamash kmo chof Coincidentally, a poem by Natan Yonatan was also performed as a song at the 1974 Israel Song Festival - "Na'ari" sung by Ilana Rovina. The Ha'achim V'Ha'achayot quartet will perform at the show - they produced an album entitled "Al Anfay Hashita" which includes four of his songs. If you have access to a high speed internet service, you can listen to the show! Just navigate to Rashut Hashidur and click on the Real Player button or the Media Player button in the left column of the web-page. If you have some decent speakers hooked up to your computer, you can close your eyes and pretend you're in Israel! Posted at 12:01 AM | Wed - April 7, 2004Israel's Entry to the 2004 Eurovision contest - May 12-15, 2004 in Turkey![]() David
D'Or is to represent Israel in this year's Eurovision contest to be held in
Turkey, with his song,
Lahaamin - To
Believe.
Just announced is Israel's Eurovision entry, David D'Or. His website
contains both a video and audio track you can listen to here (you will need Macromedia's Flash to listen
- no piracy allowed!)
Again, we see another Israeli chimera song with a mix of Hebrew and English, destined to attempt to please the judges. I can't say the music is exactly danceable, but it does remind me of some dance material, such as Kobe's At Belibi. In any case, if you want to see David D'Or's webpage, and download information about him, you can go here. Now, the song is not a finalist but one of a number of song entries competing in the semi-finals on May 12. The actual final will be held on May 15. Of the 22 semi-finalists, only 10 will go ahead to the final judging. Here are the semi-finalists: SEMI FINAL (May, 12th) 1. Finland 2. Belarus 3. Switzerland 4. Latvia 5. Israel 6. Andorra 7. Posted at 04:09 PM | Sun - December 7, 2003Shmulik and Moshiko In AustraliaFirst time ever two choreographers are
together in an Australian dance camp
I can't think of a combination of choreographers
at the first level who have done as many camps together. For many years now,
Shmulik and Moshiko have combined their talents in the one venue at least twice
a year - Tamaron in New York, and Machol Europa in the
UK.
That doesn't count events and workshops in Israel of course. So it makes perfect sense that if an Australian camp is going to be the first to have two choreographers, then it should be with Shmulik and Moshiko who have the experience of so often working with each other. In July next year, both will visit Melbourne's Gold Rush area about 90 minutes drive in Ballarat for a weekend camp and likely weeknight workshops to review some of their classic material and teach some of their new unseen dances. Both have been hosted by Melbourne's Hora group several times, and I know that the close relationship which exists between the leadership and the choreographers will bring out the best in their performances. With Shmulik and Moshiko it's never about just the dances anyway, as each tries to create some bond between Israel and the dancers when they teach. But I believe in the Hora context, camp goers will have an even better chance to get to know these two legends of IFD in a more personal way. Keep watching the blog for more details as the camp dates get closer. Posted at 08:08 AM | |
