![]() CHICAGO, IL- February, 21, 2005--What's loud, cheap, easy, and has revolutionized the music industry? If you are thinking legendary rock manager and lesbian activist Madge Weinstein...think again! Apple's ubiquitous iPod portable music player has finally surpassed Madge Weinstein as the gadget on everybody's lips. In keeping with her "if you can't beat 'em join em" philosphy Madge will be giving away an IPod shuffle (512mb version) every week to a lucky listener of her Podcast. For five consecutive weeks, beginning March 1st, 2005, attentive listeners will be given the opportunity to win a special Madge Weinstein edition iPod. The iPod comes loaded with the initial Madge podcasts that ignited a talk radio firestorm. These podcasts are rare and unavailable anywhere else. In addition the custom "MadgePod" has other unique features. "These are hot," says the outspoken Madge, "Those pretentious wankers in U2 might have fancy laser etching on their iPods, but I personally guarantee that each of these have been rubbed on my vagina!" Only listeners to Madge's Podcasts at www.yeastradio.com will be given this exclusive opportunity. You need to listen to win! What's the catch? There isn't one. In addition to being a lesbian entertainment mogul, Madge Weinstein is known as a generous philanthropist on behalf of divergent charities. By giving away free iPods, Madge Weinstein hopes to draw attention to one of her pet causes--Vaginal Yeast! "This might seem hard to believe but more people actually suffer from Vaginal Yeast than own iPods." the modest maven contunues, "I am just trying to do my part towards reversing that trend." How can you help? Wash often, wear cotton panties, and listen to Yeast Radio...you might just win a free IPod. From the website:
"Want to break into the music business, but need some help getting your foot in the door? Hollywood’s finest – the Musicians Institute – is here to help you cut a couple corners and have a lot of fun on the way. Fill out the basic info below and not only will you have the chance to learn more about all that the Musicians Institute has to offer, but you’ll also be automatically registered to win an Apple iPod!" Notes: This looks sus. to me. There are no details about which iPod, starting and finishing dates, or competition rules and legalese. There is a disclaimer pop-up which reads: "Registering for this contest means you agree that if you are chosen as the winner, then you will have two weeks from the date of being notified to respond. If you do not respond within two weeks, then another winner will be chosen at random. So check your email!" The site asks you for name, email, zip code and sex. The last one, sex, offers a drop down tab whose default is "not sure". I was always suspect about some musos. Here is more guff about the site, which also contains a live Real Player feed (when when I clicked on it sounded like Steve Ballmer doing a monkey boy on acid): "The Science of Universalbuzz.com Universal Buzz is: A network of non-commercial radio stations and online communities who believe in and choose to support the experience of live music and independent culture. Our radio program, broadcast exclusively on college and community stations, is a 30-60 minute weekly show featuring digitally recorded live concerts and/or provocative conversations with artists outside of commercially-manufactured "alternative culture." U-Buzz stations decide what shows they want to air and where best to place us in their individual programming schedules. Universal Buzz is fully self-funded through our own underwriters and sponsors. It is produced at no cost to the stations and bands involved. Our radio show is adored by 3.2 million listeners per week. Universal Buzz is not: A radio station. We are not a label nor a dot com company. We are not your father's beat-up pickup truck and we are not a front for some label or syndication group trying to infiltrate college radio. Nobody forces bands on Universal Buzz and we don't get behind anything that we don't believe in. However, Universal Buzz is always open to suggestions from our audience and stations about artists we might want to approach. Universal Buzz is an independent endeavor to promote alternative rock/independent/avant garde music, because despite the hype, we believe in our hearts that it is still the most important music being made today."
