Welcome to my Conference blog!
I don't think this has been done before, but if you've ever attended an APS conference you'll know that there are daily event sheets produced highlighting the day's upcoming events and summarising the previous day's occurences.
Well, rather than restricting this to the attendees, I wanted to do something similar for those not attending so as to not feel left out. Blogging is about building community in this case. We have 900 attendees scheduled out of 14,000 members, so the other 90% of members can get a little glimpse, through my eyes and ears, of conference events.
Hopefully, I may have some pictures to include, and maybe even some sound bites. Frankly, I don't know how it's going to work, and that's the fun part of it for me.
Just to be sure however, the blog is not an official anything of the APS - it's just my personal views being expressed. I expect to meet up with old friends, meet people who have read my columns in InPsych who come up to chat (and get some ideas from them for future columns) and of course attend events, both academic and social.
I'll add more to this first entry as time goes along in the lead up to the conference, so come back or bookmark this page. I hope to have a live internet connection going using my wireless setup, and will be on MSN messenger (lesposen), AOL IM (lposen)and Skype (lesposen) if you want to chat live with me!
Many of you will be very interested in the election outcomes, as well as the results of various tabled motions for the AGM so I'll try and get a live update going somehow.
Wish me luck, and let's hope this little experiment proves as interesting as I hope it will. |
