| Please, Steve, just a couple of improvements for iTunes and iMovie.... | | Date Created: 28 Dec, 2004, 05:28 PM |
If there is one wish I have for MacWorld, apart from the much hoped-for update to Keynote, it's for improvements to two of the iLife applications.
Most third-party software makers have revelled in the iLife suite, taking advantage of the built-in connectivity and integration which is the hallmark of the Apple lifestyle, something Windows users simply don't get. Even when they make the switch, as I have seen (supervised?) often, it takes them a while to see how different programs with different purposes fit into a "digital hub", as Steve Jobs described it some 5 years ago.
I want to see two improvements occur.
In iMovie, there is a shocking bug such that adding titles to a clip drops the sound level. The workaround is to extract the audio as a separate file, and edit the video to your heart's content. Just make sure the audio and video stay synched. Oh, and iMovie shouldn't experience a slowdown if it's not the frontmost application.
In iTunes, there are two glaring omissions which require simple improvements which will easily make this wonderful application even more useful. Firstly, like Megaseg, I'd like to see each track have its own crossfade, fade or segue, rather than the "one size fits all" preference setting.
And in the same vein, please please please - a really well thought out speed/pitch/tempo control for each sound track.
Now I realise I am asking for more DJ- like functionality, and perhaps there would be iPod synchronisation issues, but how hard can it be to incorporate these "simple" additions?
Apart from these iLife improvements, I am just happy to sit back and wait for the MacWorld announcements. I don't want to get my (or any one else's) hopes up too far... but this has to be one of the most anticipated Keynotes in quite a few years.
We have surely left the beleagured Apple days behind us... |
