Various rumour sites have it that the one stumbling block to the iTunes Music Store opening its virtual doors in the Antipodes is Sony BMG.
Going to the Sony site in Australia here allows one to see all those artists and their fans being diddled out of either extra royalites or the enjoyment of the artists' wares on their iPods, which even in Australia, remains the dominant mp3 player.
Who are the artists? |

You can locate them on a drop down panel to find out more, or click on the picture (right) here to see that menu. I wonder if any of them will have the courage of some of their Japanese colleagues to thumb their noses at their Sony lords and masters? To demand parity with other artists and their management to allow for what is sure to be a pent-up demand for their creative output once somebody slaps Sony-BMG management with a clueclub or two...
Or will it be up to the fans to vote with their index fingers and continue to download their warez wares at will so that the artists get nothing in return. Talk about a Pyrrhic victory.
