Skype finally makes it out of beta to Version 1. (0.0.0)!

After lingering for ages as a dot-point version - seemingly forever a beta, while its Windows brother has been in Version 1 for some time - the Mac OS X version hotly follows on the heels of Version beta 0..15.0.4 released just a few days ago.

That version had added Rendezvous connectivity.

Curiously, the install disk is unMac-like in not containing a Read Me or What's new - it's pure drag and drop (into your Application folder.

When you start it up, like its previous beta, you are taken through a pseudo-install process, including confirming your keychain logon password, and a drop-down license agreement, like most other installs. However, it doesn't ask for an Admin password.

My first attempt to use it - to send a follow up IM to Adam Curry (podcaster of Daily Source Code) - failed even though he showed up as available. My guess is he was podcasting and set up a block. My second attempt a few moments later to a local Skyper was successful. More testing with the VoIP to follow.

Emoticons became available in one of the final betas, while Voicemail remains unavailable. Looks like someone needs to do a thorough comparison between the Windows and Mac versions.
