Arch enemy.
It is distressing to be here and not be able to
walk more than 50 meters without my legs turning evil.
There is so much to see! The last time I saw any place so thoroughly Art Deco was Bandung, up from Jakarta. And Bandung was, at that time (a decade ago) nowhere near as well-preserved as the South Beach's Art Deco district. Bandung was a lady whose wrinkles, no matter how hard she fought, were winning. This lady is picture-perfect, plump with paint and the architectural equivalent of collagen injections. I went walking with an online acquaintance from the Fountain Pen Network, and he was quite kind about taking on the tourist guide gig for the afternoon.

A resolutely Mediterranean fancy, Casa Casuarina used to be the Versace outpost in Miami. It was eventually sold, and is now a private club. I admired the Greek key design on the gate, and because most of the afternoon's conversation was about fountain pens, could not help but be reminded of the Omas cap band.
I want to head to the beach.

It looks achingly near. Except for the matter of arch support. I brought three pairs of flats and one impossibly high pair of wedges. Talk about poor planning. I even walked (slowly) to Walgreen's to see if they had anything that could help, but arch support inserts only work when you can insert them, and it would certainly not be helpful if I wore them with open flats.
Still, I must be resolute. This might be the only chance I'll get to say hi to this shore, and this sea.
(Postscript: But oh no, today is cloudy! The sky is the color of sand. )
