SIM's philosophy of missions. ![]() ![]() more about missions & missionaries |
What's the primary task of the church? The primary task of the church is missions. The Lord has commanded the church to go everywhere proclaiming and modeling God's love and mercy to a lost world. Until he returns out of heaven at the end of time, the Lord wants us to tell everyone about his life and death; he wants to transform the lives of people everywhere as they come to saving faith in him, even as our own lives continue to be transformed by him and his gospel for "with your blood you purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation" (Revelations 5:9). Who is a missionary? A missionary is a disciple of Jesus who has been sent by the Lord to be a Christian-witness where such a witness doesn't yet exist. To do this, missionaries are often obliged to leave the comfort of their own cultures, bringing the Gospel to people who differ in language, nationality, race or tribe. Where is the mission field? The mission field is wherever there's a culturally distinct group of people without its own group of native-born, gospel-sharing disciples. There are over 16,000 such people groups worldwide ; they represent the real pioneer mission fields of our time. The people with whom we'll be working, the Sisaala, being a marginally Muslim, mostly animistic people group living in northwest Ghana, are among them. To learn more about missions, missionaries and mission fields, visit SIM.ORG. How will these groups be reached? Only if a believer from outside their culture leaves behind his or her own community to reach them with the Gospel of Christ. To do this, that person needs the help of believers at home who are willing to stand behind the work with sacrificial prayer and financial support. Might the Lord be calling you to support someone whom he's called to go? Click here to learn how you can help us in our efforts to share the good news of the gospel with the Sisaala of Ghana, West Africa.
