History/Benefits of Local, Iowa & International Lions |
 |
 |
OUR HISTORY — The Sioux City Noon Lions Club was chartered in 1920. It's members are men and women of all ages and walks of life. We celebrated our 85th anniversary this year.
MEMBER BENEFITS — A Lion is closely associated with people who belive that the greatest pleasures in life are derived through providing service to others. Our belief is constantly being proven by the success and growth of the International Association of Lions Clubs.
The knowledge that one is helping ease the burden of other human beings within our community and around the world is truly gratifying. Helping others really feels good!
HOW WE FUNCTION LOCALLY — The local club is governed by it's Officers and Board of Directors. The members are kept aware of all activities through weekly meetings and a weekly newsletter. An annual steak fry as well as a Christmas and a Sweethheart/Valentines party also provide opportunities for developing friendships/communicaitons.
IOWA LIONS ORGANIZATION — The Sioux City Noon Lions Club is one of forty clubs in District 9 X 1. This district is made up of all clubs in Northwest Iowa. There are nine districts in Iowa. Each district is led by a district governor and a cabinet of appointed distsrict officers. However, each club is autonomous within the limits of the constitution of the Lions of Iowa and the Lions International.
INTERNATIONAL LIONS — "We Serve" - Nearly 1.35 million Lions members in 196 countries and geographic areas answer the needs that challenge the communites of the world. Lions tackle tough problems like blindness, drug abuse prevention and diabetes awareness. "Global Neighbors" — Lions members — men and women — provide immediate and sustained relief in times of disaster and offer long-term assistance to thsoe in need. Lions collect and recycle eyeglasses for distribution in developing countries and treat millions of people to prevent river blindness. "Community Leaders" - Lions improve the quality of life in their local communties by doing such things as building parks, supporting local hosptals and establishing water treatment programs. For nearly 90 years, whenever there is a need at home or around the world, Lions are there to help — WE SERVE.
