Motherhood

In the midst of all the paperwork, accounting, etc. that comes through the studio it's so nice to take some time and connect with what drove me here in the first place - my love of telling the story of relationships through photography. I was excited to be able to capture this photo in the studio last week which tells a nice story of a mother and her little boy.

Amelia

It's a beautiful summer day today here in Delaware and it's always so nice to recieve emails like this in my morning inbox:

Laura,

I just wanted to thank you again for the WONDERFUL pictures you took of Amelia.  We couldn't be happier with the outcome.  The pictures are amazing, and truly capture her personality.  I've got a few of the pictures in my office and they bring a smile to my face every time I look at them (and sometimes a tear to my eye on those days when I'm missing her).  The album is beautiful as well.  We showed it to our families on Mothers' Day and they were all in awe.  And a number of people we know saw some pictures of Amelia you had on display at the Flower Market and called to tell us how great they looked.  You do amazing work, and we feel so lucky to have such a wonderful snapshot of this time with Amelia.

I also wanted to let you know how much we appreciated everyone in your studio.  Michele was so nice and helpful in scheduling our appointment and sending us all the info in advance of the session, and Becca was an absolute delight to work with in picking out our pictures.  She had put together some great ideas (the trio of picture of Amelia and I is one of our favorites!) and gave us plenty of time to think over our ideas and determine exactly what we needed.  Please pass along our thanks to them as well.  You are truly lucky to have such great people to work with.  We look forward to working with all of you soon.  In the meantime, best of luck with your wedding plans!  Thank you again!

Lauren & Jason

And I have to say, we love Amelia almost as much as Lauren and Jason do.  I mean look at these eyes:

I always recommend working the chub when you're still a baby:

the end!

Destination: Annapolis

With all the portraits I've been photographing lately, I haven't been able to post all of the sessions - instead I'm going to share just the ones that are a bit out of the norm for me. I have never been to Annapolis so it was a great change of scenery when I traveled down to where Townsend & Doug and their beautiful children Bailey, Claire and Robbie live. Annapolis is such a great family oriented town and they live right within walking distance of the downtown area where the pier is.

The girls:

and their brother:

we had so much fun walking around the pier together!

I love this close-up of Bailey:

Robbie serenaded us all with his air guitar abilities:

See you later!

Good Times at Flower Market

Well, we have made it through day one of flower market and it was a success! We have booked several sessions, and have raised money for Flower Market charities at the same time.

Two of our favorite moms - Kate DeMeo and Tracy McGuire:

and Tracy's twins: Pheobe and Ty (showing off some very cool tattoos)

LNP employees Becca and Michele are not only very talented, but they are extremely good looking too!

We love our client volunteers! Here is client Kirstie Donohue with LNP propaganda:

Michele is probably one of the biggest closet American Idol fans I know, so of course she was thrilled when Idol finalist Elliott Yamin took to the flower market stage. After this photo was taken of Michele and our production assistant Melissa, she even got in line and scored herself a personalized photo signed by Elliott himself - go Michele!

We are located in the merchant tent immediately in front of the big tower in Rockford Park. Come by and say hello!

I love newborns!

I have been very fortunate to meet so many great kids lately. But I really do have a special place on my heart for newborns - I totally understand for a lot of women getting out of the house a few days after giving birth is tough but for the ones who can... I highly recommend it! Babies a few months old are still beautiful but look so different than newborns do. With newborns, I love to use simple objects that show the baby's size using a reference for scale as you can see below with little Hamiltion.

Melody Appel of Innove Event Design gave birth to Hamilton last week and I am so glad I had the opportunity to meet her yesterday. Right now I'm booking about 3-4 weeks in advance for weekday session, but if you have a brand new baby in your home give us a call we'll make sure to squeeze you in!

Savannah's 1st birthday

I am always thinking about how to make studio photography a bit more interesting and dynamic than your standard in-studio photo session. One of my recent ideas for in-studio children's portraiture is to start out with an outfit - then at the end strip the child down to his or her diaper and provide a one year old her very first birthday cake to see what happens! I shared this idea with Sheila, whose maternity session I photographed last year, and she was very excited about trying out this idea on her daughter Savannah. I loved the outcome and can't wait for our next baby's first birthday studio session!

Melody & Dave ~ Maternity

Melody Appel, of Innove Event Design, allowed me to choose the location of her maternity session and I decided upon the Eastern State Penetenary for an urban look.
