Newsflash!

Die Another Day, the 20th official Bond film, marks
the 40th anniversary of the James Bond franchise, one of the most popular
and most successful in history. Pierce
Brosnan returns as Agent 007 in his toughest assignment yet, enduring
endless torture and matching wits with a "faceless" enemy. Other
returning cast members include Dame Judi Dench as M and John Cleese, introduced
in The World Is Not Enough as "R",
though he takes on the "Q" name here. Samantha Bond also returns
as Miss Moneypenny.
Bond has his hands full of badness and beauties this time around.
The lead "Bond girl," Jinx, is played by Halle Berry, a popular,
excellent actress whose film credits include X-Men, Introducing Dorothy
Dandridge and the recent Monster's Ball, for which she has won
critical acclaim and an Academy Award. Of course, one woman is never enough
for Bond. Rosamund Pike (above left) plays the other "Bond girl,"
Miranda Frost, a new agent for MI6. Toby Stevens and Rick Yune round out the
cast as bad guys.
There has been endless speculation about the plot, but MGM
is keeping a tight rein on it. The opening is said to take place at the border
between North and South Korea. Bond is betrayed and subsequently captured
by enemy troops. Several years later, he returns to MI6 and vows to hunt down
the person that betrayed him. Bond works alongside a new agent (Pike), and
meets up with the beautiful and formidible Jinx (Berry) while tracking Zao,
who has a face-altering device.
Filming started on Jan. 14. Neal Purvis and Robert Wade wrote
the script. The movie's premiere is set for Monday night at the Shrine Auditorium
in Los Angeles.
The film was directed by Lee Tamahori and produced by Michael
G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli for EON Productions. Film locations included
London, Hawaii, Spain and Iceland.
Die Another Day is scheduled for U.S. release on Nov.
22, 2002.
