New front landscaping

We finally decided to get it done, and are really happy with the results. We designed a series of diamond-shaped areas, separated within cobblestones, for the areas next to the street.

Front overview - We removed a shrub in front, and created diamond planting areas
Front corner - The diamonds continue around the corner.
Close-up of the work - We removed about 2" of dirt all throughout this area, filled it with cobblestones, and created planting boxes reset within the area for (future) plants & shrubs
Size comparison - We decided on two different sizes of planting boxes (thanks for the idea, Dad!). We actually had to redo the original "small" ones, and replace them with slightly-larger efforts.
Side pathway - We already had plum trees and shrubs planted along here - so we can really see how they will look when we get other items planted across the front.
Side detail - Note the nice job on the 2x4's comprising the planting boxes.
Side, looking toward front - Again, the size comparison. We have weed block under all areas (and a slightly-drunk Plum tree, apparently ;-)
Side view - The inside planting area was also done - weed block under all, and a fresh load of decorative bark.
Side of the house - Azalea, and Jasmine. We FINALLY finished off this area, as well - with decorative bark, and a new hose reel ;-)
Front of house - Rose bushes, garlic plants - and (finally) finished with bark (SOOO much better than bare dirt)
Front entryway - We got the new front door a while ago, but we now have the trellises, new decorative lights, etc.
Side barrier hedge - This thing grows incredibly fast - I just trimmed approx. 3 feet off the top (!). Also, we had some cobblestones left, so used them to finish off the area beneath.
Barrier hedge - bottom detail - Again, those cobblestones are SOOO much better than bare dirt.
Front quarter view - Overall, it looks a lot better than before (and I'm sure our neighbors agree). We still need to find things to plant across the front, but that should come a bit more quickly now.
Rich & Misty's house - Right across the street, and our incentive to do SOMETHING. Their place looks great (and Rich is running for District 10 councilman, see <http://www.vote4delarosa.com/>)
Our foothill view - We love living here - the view out our front is gorgeous. This is almost due south.
Foothill view 2 - ...and this is southwest. There are pathways about halfway up the hill, and a great view from the top, looking back north across the valley.
Backyard view - Just to sneak another one in here... Note the hummingbird windchime (thanks, G'Ma!), and the little girl planter (thanks, Mom!), along with our other little decorative items.
