A Song for Amy

A poem by Dave Bailey

surely this gem
once brilliant and glistening
cannot be hidden
in the dim evening light

surely this star
once sparkling and gleaming
cannot be masked
in the darkness of night

surely this flower
once fragrant and blooming
cannot be wilting
after this furious fight

for a gem such as this
shines without and within
and a star such as this
has new life to begin
and a bloom such as this
only knows how to win

and we:
the jewelers
the star-gazers
the gardeners

marvel in the brilliance
the beauty
the freshness
rejoicing in each moment of glory
this angel has brought to us all

like a ship that is seeking her landfall
like a wave that is seeking her shoreline
like a dewdrop seeking her morning
like a song that awaits her first voice

like the time too precious to speak of
like the journey none knew would be taken
like the wonder of her destination
like the prayers of all those who loved her

all we can know is that love is much bigger than we are
and that He is much bigger than love
and that somewhere in between
such love and our angel

we find a new blossom
and her name is peace.
