This Land is What I Am

music and lyrics by Dave Baker

 lyrics

I hear the north wind rustling through the trees
and remember faded fortunes I have known.
I hear a sea bird's echo in the dawn
and he whispers that it's time I'm heading home.

I'm feeling lost and alone, so far away
and I long for the day when I'll be free
to feel her cool sand beneath my feet again
and her endless forest watching over me.

My island home is calling me
where the wild and swirling waters greet the sea.
Her boundless sky, forever free,
for this land is what I am,
this land is me.

It's been so long since I've seen the summer rain
caress the leaves that shade a peaceful garden lea.
I miss the pure scent of freshly fallen leaves
and the morning mist that hides a restless sea.

I'll soon be home in my land where winter snows
enshroud the mighty peaks that guard her timeless shore.
I'll be at rest in quiet harmony
and be one within the land forever more.

My island home is calling me
where the wild and swirling waters greet the sea.
Her boundless sky, forever free,
for this land is what I am,
this land is me.
