The folks at Backwards City are always looking for original, compelling, risk-taking new work in the fields of poetry, prose, and comics.

We no longer accept unsolicited manuscripts year round. Our current reading period goes until November 15, 2007.

Please note that we respond only once or twice per reading period. As a result, your response time can vary from several weeks to several months. We are also currently backlogged; we apologize in advance for any additional delays.

In an effort to control submissions, we ask that you submit only once per reading period.

With rare exceptions we do not publish work that has been previously published. Translations are acceptable, but it is the author's responsibility to acquire necessary copyright permissions before submitting the work to BCR.

We accept simultaneous submissions, but only with immediate notification of acceptance elsewhere.

The prose department now prefers email submssions over snail-mail submissions. Poetry happily accepts either. Please click on your chosen genre below to ensure that you send your submission to the right place.
