Penny chose to pose at the far end of this tree, probably wondering what the heck I was up to. This tree fell over on October 17, 1989. I had gone for a walk a day or two earlier, noticed some beetle damage of some kind, but thought nothing of it. Then, I went for another walk up there a few days after the Loma Prieta earthquake, and the tree had fallen. It's been sitting there, very slowly rotting, for a bit over 13 years now.
