Dinosaur fossils at Cityplaza

I just came back from the most strange and exhilarating experience happening in Hong Kong right now; it's the dinosaur fossils on display at Cityplaza. At the center of this modern mall stands some of the most intact, pre-historic dinosaur fossils ever, dated 120 to 220 million years old! They range from a tiny 1-foot Ceratopsian to an 86-feet Sauropod. Together the 8 dinosaurs make up the very first exhibition to be held outside of a museum and placed inside a shopping mall, free to all.

While observing, I wondered whether the skeletal fossils are actually bones, because that’s what they look like, even up close, though intellect tells me it’s practically impossible for bones to preserve for over 100 million years. Luckily, there's a small area with a thighbone of a Omeisaurus that we can touch. Even from two-feet away it looks like a big piece of bone, but once I went up to touch it, there's no question that it’s no longer a bone but a fossilized rock.

I took pictures of all 8 dinosaur fossils and posted them on Flickr. The 86-feet Sauropod is so long that it’s impossible to take it all in one shot, so I took a movie of it (3.99 MB, 37.21 sec), from head to tail.

The exhibit lasts till July 31st, so all who are in Hong Kong during this time need to go see it.
