2-year stats

Today marks 2 years since I put up a stats tracker on my blog. With around 25,000 page views (not including RSS feeds) in 24 months, it is what it is, since I don't know what to compare to. I've never thought much about my stats, otherwise, I would have made extra efforts to post more entries than I do now.

Yet, an interesting stat shows the single busiest day on my blog (531 page views) was on September 2nd of 2003. If you consider my blog averages a little more than 1,000 page views per month, 531 views in a day is a big deal! Ironically, it was also my birthday. So what happened that day on 2003? Did a lot of friends came by my site to wish me happy birthday? I think not. Going back in time to the date I posted the entry, there was a Category 9 Typhoon in Hong Kong, only second to the biggest one in 1999 (Category 10), and not one bigger since.

To much amazement, Google quickly picked up my blog entry and anyone who typed in "Hong Kong typhoon" on its search engine, my blog would rank first, even one higher than the Hong Kong government observatory. I felt bad but also amused, of all those poor souls came looking for practical information about the horrific typhoon. This ranking is no longer, of course, but if you type in "birthday typhoon" today, my blog still has its first place on Google.

Thanks for those who have read or are reading my blog. I'll try to keep it up, for the sake of keeping a record.
