Odeo beta

Odeo is out in public beta, so anyone can go there and sign up for this online service that's all about Podcasting. I heard of Odeo long before Steve Jobs announced support for Podcasts in iTunes, so I imagine the rollout of iTunes 4.9 stole some thunder from Odeo. But that's not to say Odeo is already insignificant. On the contrary, Odeo is great for anyone who prefers the browser to iTunes, and that number is significant.

The web interface to Odeo is clean and familiar, that's because the guys behind it are the creators of Blogger, and they are good at making complicated things simple for the masses. The three cores to Odeo are Listen, Sync and Create. Listen lets you browse, listen and subscribe to Podcast feeds. Sync manages your subscriptions, then download them using Syncr, a helper application for Macs and Windows. Create is not yet ready (remember it's beta), but it'll make you a Podcaster right from the browser or phone.

If you can't decide on Odeo or iTunes, you don't have to, because Odeo can route your subscriptions to iTunes, as well as other Podcast clients, as an RSS feed. Smart move, Odeo.
