Course Info: HSCI 3013 - section 995 - Fall 2008

Make-ups no; Extra Credit yes

No special make-up or extra-credit assignments will be given on a one-time individual basis for this course. If you fall far behind in the regular weekly assignments, drop the course. However, keep in mind that all assignments except for the content points of the Web Project are based on effort, and consistency rather than completion of every single assignment is what matters most. See the Top 10 List and the time management tips.

There are four extra-credit methods announced to everyone in advance that you can do any week:

  1. Finding broken links or typos (1/2 point per correction).

  2. Submitting a quotation that is adopted on one of the course pages (1 point per quotation actually used).

  3. Attending colloquia and other public events sponsored by the History of Science Department (1 point per event, maximum of 1 per week).

  4. Watch approved documentaries related to that week's topic (1 point per video, maximum of 1 per week).
Many times there are links to TV documentaries on the Unit pages or the Starting Assumptions pages; these count as "approved." When these links are present, watch the video (requires iTunes) and then email me a 1000 word summary of what you learned and thought of the documentary. Be sure to note any connections with the week's topic, or places where the documentary filled in gaps not covered in the course or extended themes barely touched upon. Also let me know whether you would recommend that documentary to other students in the future, and why. All videos must be pre-approved.

Do you have a great quote for this page? Let me know! (If used, a new quote is worth 1 point extra credit)
