Day Two
We left Valle de Bravo and headed to Angangueo to
go to the sanctuary at El Rosario.
We started out the day in Valle de Bravo and
after breakfast we loaded up the bus and headed to Angangueo. When we arrived
we unloaded and then hopped onto a flat bed truck to head to the sanctuary at El
Rosario. We had lunch at a taco stand before making the trip up the mountain.
It was quite a walk! I often had to stop and rest to get used to the altitude.
When we reached the top the altitude was 10,803 feet! It was worth the effort.
There were so many butterflies that they actually weighed down the branches. I
got to see a black-headed grosbeak eating some monarchs! Then when we got to
the top is was truly unbelievable. I have taken over 350 photos today! By
tomorrow I'll have the best ones to show you but here are just a couple to get
you interested:
Here's a clump of hundreds of monarchs
weighing down a branch. If you look carefully at the second photo you will see
the black-headed grosbeak on the top right of the clump of
monarchs.
