Day One


We started the day in Mexico City, and moved on to Toluca for breakfast. We saw the monarchs at Herrada!!

We drove to Toluca on a tour bus to start our day. We had a nice breakfast in Toluca and then visited a store that is a lot like Walmart. They actually had prices posted to compete with Walmart! From here we went to the sanctuary in Herrada. When we walked down the path the sun was just peeking through. This started to bring the monarchs streaming down the mountain. It is so hard to describe the unbelievable feeling to see all these monarchs streaming past you! I have taken some video clips that you will enjoy when I return. I'm posting a photo I took below:



We ate a picnic lunch in view of the Nevado volcano. We are now headed to Valle de Bravo.

In Valle de Bravo we visited a market and I bought a very brightly colored table cloth, a shirt and some baskets made of pine needles. It was fun to bargain with the native people. In the evening we went to the plaza where everyone seems to go! It was very interesting. Then we had a nice dinner and now I'm at an internet cafe getting ready to send this to all of you! Tomorrow we are off to another monarch colony very high in the mountains where the air is very thin. Buenos noches!
