PIANIST, MIKE STRICKLAND AND FAMILY are planning their 2008 Summer House Concert Tour! JUNE 4th - July 15th House concerts can vary from very small informal friends/family groups to larger, more formal gatherings created by the host. In exchange for hearing some great music, sometimes there is a set ticket price, sometimes just a request for donation or passing the hat. It doesn't need to be at your home - a church or community center or local theater all work great too. House concerts are one of the most important trends in independent music today. Musicians across the country are discovering a great way to connect with new audiences - performing in people's homes. In our case, Mike's fans are spread across the nation because of CD sales that have occurred nationwide for 20 years. We love to travel to different areas and make new friends and meet our fans. It is also a great opportunity to try out new repertoire and get ready for our regular concert season that starts in the fall. There's just something about house concerts. The intimacy really allows a deeper connection to the audience, and that connection often leads to lifelong fans. Anyone can host a house concert. *For example, here is copy from one of our hostesses invitations: You are invited to hear some great music on my grand piano in my home on Saturday night at 7pm. Some of my favorite musicians will be traveling through town on a cross-country tour and I am hosting one of their concerts. Pianist Mike Strickland is an internationally known musician with 20 CD's to his credit. Mike's music is an exciting, eclectic, mix of musical styles including blues, jazz, pop, classical and original works. His 16 year old daughter, Elizabeth Strickland, is an award-winning classical pianist. They will both be performing on my grand piano in my living-room! To off-set their gas and travel expenses I am suggesting a donation of (fill in the blank) per couple or (fill in the blank) per seat. Dessert and Refreshments will be served. Seating is limited. Please RSVP! *Another host created a fund-raiser for his favorite charity and had a concert in his church where we split the ticket sales. A total win-win idea. *Another host decided to pay us a performance fee and treat their friends to a great night of music. But, on our house concert tour, we will have a small sound system and a full size digital piano keyboard available for very casual situation. TO RECAP: We welcome your ideas regarding performance fees. We do have to pay bills and make a living but there are lots of ways to make it work.
