Still ill

I can't believe I'm still ill. It's the mother of all head colds. Today I woke up able to breathe, but I'm only able to get up and move around for about ten minutes at a time and then I need to lie down. I've been subsisting on tea, cocoa, soup and shakes.

My husband shook his finger at me this morning, saying I should be drinking OJ. Trouble is, that doesn't appeal -- I am sure it wouldn't feel good on my throat. I assured him I was doing OK with a fruit shake a day -- strawberries have vitamin C, and I've been using generous handfuls in my shakes.

Lebanese Lentil Soup

I'm sick, so I wanted soup. I finished reading a Hare Krishna tract-cookbook this morning, so I had lentils on my mind. I've also been craving kale. You can guess what happened next.

I love lentil soup heavily flavored with lemon. The first time I ever had it was at a funny little restaurant that was in a converted large farmhouse on Rt. 460 near I-81 not far from Blacksburg, VA, where I went to school . The restaurant's interior was covered with college football paraphernalia (many antique ivy league pennants and photos in addition to the requisite Hokie gear). I was dining alone, and I seem to recall I made a special trip out to this restaurant, though I can't think why other than someone must've told me it was worth the drive. I also seem to recall walls covered in red velvet, and white tablecloths... although this was not a white tablecloth area nor were they charging white tablecloth prices. They served Lebanese food. The staff were anglos. The food was really, really good. The soup was a revelation, and I've been looking for it ever since -- the restaurant closed down not long after my soup-related epiphany.
