Summertime Update This is a box elder bug in the Mt. Olympus
wilderness. Nice little bug. Not so nice when thousands are crawling in your
backyard, like we do. We have a serious problem with these bugs this summer.
We also have a serious problem with a suicidal lawn. No matter how much water
we give it, it seems to want to die. Otherwise, things around the house are
ok...we have a semi-productive garden and quincy is getting bigger and earning
her keep by taking care of the more warm-blooded
pests.
We've been doing a little bit of climbing, but not as much as we want. We started climbing indoors in March (it was a birthday present from S), and I got hooked on indoor climbing. I can go anytime of the day, its closer than the mountains, i can get in tons of routes, and i feel myself getting stronger. ![]() We also hiked up to the top of Mt. Olympus, something I have wanted to do since moving here. Its an all hike, but there are many better ones. Its pretty much straight up hill, but the views of the city are good. Here's S at the top. ![]() S did this hike a few days before the Wasatch Back Relay, a 12-peson, 173 mile overnight excursion through the backside of the Wasatch Mountain Range from Logan to Park City. Each member of the team ran 3 legs ranging from 3 to 6 miles each, endured little sleep and food, and cramped quarters in a minivan for 24 hours. but...every person of the team loved it! here's they are at the finish line. ![]() ![]() Go Susan! ![]() We also joined J for his annual Moon Lake birthday bash, but had to leave early because S got a bite over her eye that quickly swelled to the size of a plum. Thankfully, a dose of steroids and antibiotics quickly reduced the swelling, and she didn't suffer any type of damage to her eye. It was fun while it lasted though...we canoed out to the campsite, J and I went fishing and caught brook, brown, and rainbows (which he fried up and we ate. MMMMM. yummmm....delicious), had plenty of libations that night, and slept in the woods. well, there's always next year. oh wait, J's getting married!! Posted: Thu - August 3, 2006 at 02:20 PM |
