Happy Halloween! Last night, for the first time, I was at the
other side of the door. I purchased an ugly plastic mask in the likes of an
evil rotten pumpkin, and planned to scare children as they approached the door.
I botched my first victim, because he saw me without the mask as he rang the
door bell, but I was ready for the second...I heard the little youngling
approach, and I opened the door and said "boo! " The little girl visibly swayed
backwards and the mom said "yuk, creepy!" in a voice that indicated that she
really did think it was creepy. I removed the mask, and said happy halloween,
but the damage had been done. I realized that there isn't much gratification in
scaring little children. The mask stayed on, but I had Susan, who was dressed
as a much more benign looking cowgirl, answer the door with
me!
A couple of days before Halloween, Hideaki Tomita (left), Matt Riedy (far right), and I golfed at the U for possibly one of the last times this year. This is the par 4 5th. The new Moran Eye Center is the building on the left. See Bryan's blog for a tour! The trax line (surface train) can be seen on the left as well. Directly in the distance, behind the tallest tree on the right, is Mt. Olympus, whose prominent face is a goal of mine to climb. You can see the dusting of snow in the mountains. In the winter, all of the contoured land behind the campus become blanketed with the powdery white.
Its buried like an egg, sunny side up. Matt taking care of business. A close up of the new Moran Eye Center in the background.
"The most beautiful swing"
Looking west to the Great Salt Lake, and the capitol building in the foreground. The large crane is part of an earthquake safety retrofitting project. You can also barely see the green for hole 1 (left of the speed limit sign) and the tee box for hole 2 (in front of the bench). Hard to notice, if you haven't played on the course.
