Red Pine Lake

A gorgeous day in Little Cottonwood Canyon. The prominent peak in the photo above is called the Pfifferhorn (elev. 11326').

It's been a week and a half of high pressure and high temperatures (in the mountains, but not the valley!) that has lead to a really low avalanche danger in the mountains, but a really shitty snowpack for future storms...we decided to head into the red pine canyon to take a look.

we started from the White Pine trail head (7670') at 9am. This is Noah crossing the bridge that leads into Maybird Gulch, about half way up the trail. The source of this creek is Red Pine Lake (9630').

two and a half hours and 2500' later, there's just one last bit of uphill work. Cornlander was leading the charge, and i had no idea what was awaiting us. he told us, maybe there will be a big wide open bowl on the other side.

Instead, we were greeted with a 40ยบ, 800 foot descent. EZ is stoked.

So is UB...

Cornlander checking it out.

It's GOOD.

UB gettin' some

So's N.

EZ killin' it.

The route from top to bottom, looking up from red pine lake.

Great shot. This was the steepest longest line that i have done in the BC, and can't wait to do another one like it. Currently, snowing in the valley, we'll see how the snow shapes up.
