Mike and Laurel

Congratulations to Michael and Laurel Berk!

We went back home this weekend to attend the wedding of MB and Laurel F. Mike and I have been friends since high school. When Mike was away in Israel for the summer, my parents were in Japan, so "naturally," the Berk's adopted me in! That was a quite a few summer's ago, but it seems like no years have passed when we meet up. The wedding was held in the backyard of the Berk family home. The picture above is of the happy couple under the Chuppa, a symbol of the new house that they will start together.

The night before the big day, the friends of the family held an out-of-towner BBQ. The food was delicious, and it was great seeing everybody. I was able to hang out with friends like BR and MM that i haven't seen in a few years. Although we are many years out of high school, sitting at the table there during dinner gave me a very familiar feeling. Not sure what MB is giggling about, but his parents are toasting the crowd. That's his dad in orange, and his lovely wife Jane besides him.

The head "cowboy" in charge fielded Q&A's after dinner.

The beverage bar was the answer to most of those questions!
This was the setup in the B's backyard. Niceness!

The proud father of the groom...

MB with his cousin AH from New York.

The commitment of love...The reading of the ketubah, or marriage contract.

And Mazel Tov!! Which in Hebrew, means "good fortune/luck", according to wikipedia. According to Rabbi O, the breaking of the glass, and the loud noise accompanying it, is shrouded in mystery, but may be to scare away foreboding spirits.

after the ceremony, the newlyweds are allowed to share a private moment together...

Congratulations M & L. I wish for you many years of happiness, success, and love. There are those that could not be there with you in person, but believe me, their spirits are alive and with you always.
