On the way to Atlanta

The last few weeks have been incredibly busy, and very productive. And like most projects that i encounter, the workload ramped up exponentially as t -> deadline. But both posters are done and being printed as i type this. phew! and we leave tomorrow morning!

I want to thank JV, who balanced a difficult 2nd year pharm tox schedule with accomplishing some key experiments for the kainate poster. And EW and JG for squeezing in some last minute experiments for the FJ poster. Great work everyone!! The FJ poster, especially, was almost entirely the work of 2 very motivated high school students (EW and JMSG) that I had the pleasure of "mentoring" this summer. They worked very hard, diligently, and responsibly, and their work is going to be presented at an International Neuroscience Conference, and for that, I think that they should be very proud of themselves. I certainly am! And of course, thank you KW for your most excellent mentoring. It is a pleasure to work in your lab, and thank you for helping us make the best poster that we can.

Instead of printing out the posters here, I will spare the "boring" details, and just provide some pretty pictures...as a whole, these are pictures of cells in the limbic system, primarily in the hippocampus (the supposed seat of learning and memory). The different "styles" of pictures, whether black and white or color, are different ways to probe these cells. black and white usually means we were looking for one marker or another, and color is a way to look at multiple markers on the same cell.

I will try to post from Atlanta!!
