Spring Climbing Update![]() Susan pulling 10 on a gorgeous spring day outside of Pocatello, Idaho Well spring has arrived in Utah. I didn't know
it in March when I skipped out of work on a friday morning and headed up Little
Cottonwood canyon that that day would be my last day in the powder. But what a
glorious day it was! Incredibly good snow, despite the warming temps, and great
company. The temperature really climbed after that day, and the avalanche cycle
was heinous. I bet a lot of people still got out, but the gigantic avalanches
(eg. Wet
slab debris below Scott Bowl, Saurer) kept me off the slopes and
thinking about rock.
One of the early days in BCC. FH showed CM and I one of the many of his favorite "old-timey" spots.
Psycho-stemming.
An early spring day in AF. Still a bit cold in the shade, but beats 100 degree heat. Chad's crux sequence on his red-point attempt of Division (5.11d). Massacre Rocks Road Trip! The payoff pitch. Susan and I were introduced to the fine basalt climbing outside of Pocatello, Idaho. Though there was threat of rain, we felt not a single drop. This was the first climbing trip of the year, and what a blast! climbed more hard routes (though most on TR) than i ever have, and watched FH climb the sickest arete/face.
Here i'm discussing the route i am going to try and lead.
Making decent progress.....
But dammit if that hold wasn't that good. I'll later figure it out on TR. That night, FH cooked us a delicious country style miso soup with salmon, wakame, tofu, rice....it was really good. As i staggered around the campfire, friends around me became rather concerned that my alcohol dehydrogenase enzyme was faulty.
FH with the reach around on Pretty Woman (11a/b).
We saw a lot of vultures. This one's looking hungry.
Gittin' er' done.
