It was interesting to listen to the paradox that is
Bret Hart. One thing he has always said, which is
something I couldn't agree with more and he repeated
that night was about priorities. The number one
priority in wrestling to protect your opponent. There
should be nothing held higher than that. He was proud
that in his career he had never significantly hurt
anyone in a match. That's something he should be
proud of. You need to be able to trust the person you
are working with in the ring. If your opponent wants
to take risks with his body that is his choice to do,
but you should never take a risk FOR him. This is the
number one reason I hate guys like JBL, Bob Holly,
and Rick Steiner. They think it's cute to rough
someone up in the ring. It's not. It's disrespectful.
But then Bret went on to say the other thing he
says... which makes me have no sympathy for him. He
talked about "doing the honors" in wrestling. I find
it hypocritical since he has chosen to define his
life by the incident in which he chose not to do the
honors. He has held a grudge over the "Montreal
Screwjob" since the day it happened. But it happened
because he was not willing to do the time honored
tradition of jobbing the belt to someone else when
you are leaving a company or territory. He didn't
want to job the belt. He wanted to win and then just
hand the belt over the next night on Raw before he
left. Doing the Honors means to do for someone else
what a person once did for you. You wouldn't have
that belt if someone didn't give it up for you.
Stephanie McMahon looked like she was about 39 months
pregnant, but man was she still hot.
Wrestlemania 22 was much better than I anticipated.
Even though Rey Rey in no way deserves the belt, at
least they kept that match short. I was surprised and
impressed to see Edge taking the brunt of some of the
big spots during his match with Foley. The HBK and
Vince match was a lesson in pacing and story telling.
Even the tag team title match was watchable.
After the PPV I headed back to the hotel bar where
i was staying, "Shoeless Joe Jackson's" to watch the
replay of the PPV. Johnny Fairplay showed up there
with his entourage. He got heckled by some TNA fans
but other than that all was good. He was a bit drunk
by the time I talked to him. The first thing he said
to me was "I bet you like mashed potatoes."
Monday I went to Raw. The show didn't have a lot of
energy. I think part of it was due to the fact they
never did the Raw pyros. Edge and HHH were pretty
funny though.
After Raw I stopped by Shoeless Joe's again and
Michael Cole came in for some drinks. I left about 2
in the morning and Cole was still there going strong.
He looks like he's been buffing up some.
Anyway, just click on the "Top Turnbuckle" link on
the side of the page and you can go look at some of
the pictures and video clips I took with my camera
from WM 22 and Raw.
