Sign of the Apocalypse? 2

It's been raining for more than a day I would guess. I'm currently under siege by minions of evil. They are every where!

I'm under attack tonight. With all the rain that's poured down over the last couple of days the ground is saturated with water. My house is filling up with worms. It's surrounded by them too. The downstairs part of the house is a concrete floor. The carpet is right over the concrete. Due to massive coal mining in the area the ground over the years has settled and shifted underneath the house. This causes cracks in the concrete. The worms come up through the cracks and work their way up through the carpet. I walked downstairs around midnight and found about 30 of these slithering beasts all over the floor. To say I freaked out would be an understatement.

I grabbed a dustpan and brush and started scooping these bad boys up. I opened the back door to go to the garage to get outside to deposit them in the back yard and when I flipped on the light there were about 30 more writhing around in the garage just in the main pathway where I could see them. My garage is used for storage so I can't even see 70% of it. There's no telling how many more there are. I scooped up the ones in the pathway and opened the back door. Outside I saw at least a hundred more in the driveway and on the concrete path around the house. Ugh! I tossed the one I had out into the rain soaked yard and grabbed a broom to whisk the closest ones on the pathway away.

By the time I came back in house there were another 10 in the living room. I got those and then nabbed 5 more new ones in the garage and sent them flying towards the back alley. I ran back inside and had a good 5 minute ICK! session as I cowered in the bedroom. An hour later I peeked back downstairs only to see another 10 in the living room which I nabbed and 10 more in the garage.

After getting rid of these I went out to the front porch and brushed away 5 or 6. About 5 minutes ago I went through my routine again. Getting 7 downstairs and took a picture of the ones I could see in the garage before sending them into orbit too out into the nether regions of the yard. I came back in and settled in at the computer. I don't want to do this anymore but I'm afraid to let it go all night unattended especially since it's still raining.

The worst part is that since the first batch were down there for awhile going unnoticed, they had time to dry out and slowly die off. They were easy to dispose of. Now when I check on them they are all fresh from the ground and very lively. They all put up a fight and wriggle all over the dustpan in attempts to attack me and to escape. I haven't even looked in the furnace room... I don't even want to know what's going on in there. GACK!!!!!
